About Our Therapy and Outreach Animals
For the last nine years, our organization has provided Outreach Programs with various benefits. Depending on the goal of the program, we incorporate the appropriate animal assisted intervention. We have provided animal assisted therapy and animal assisted education on location to places such as the Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento and various senior facilities. In addition to our engagements in the community we offer AAT, AAE, and animal assisted activities on our property. Each session is personalized to the group or participant with carefully selected animals and activities.
Since our organization is based in animal rescue and sanctuary, we provide a home and rehabilitation, if needed. We have various species; such as horses, donkeys, goats, cats, dogs, rabbits, chickens, ducks, rats, pigs, and a tortoise. Not all of our animals are suitable or intended for outreach. The process for chosen animals is described below.
Human-Animal Interactions
Interactions range from presence, handling, routine care, to groundwork activities. Specifically, we have an oriental shorthair feline in training for autism support and AAT off property. Two miniature horses with multiple years of AAT and AAA experience. We also have a Sulcata Tortoise, Eli, who routinely provides AAT both on property and in the community.
Our Training Process
Depending on the species, the animal is evaluated by Kate and put on the list for observation and review by the staff and board. The animal is then trained, observed and tested for human-animal interaction capabilities for a minimum of six months. A veterinarian is consulted for zoonotic considerations, vaccinations, and health inspection.
A full health inspection and vaccination consultation is performed for each candidate to ensure the safety of both participants and to allow planning for best practices and considerations with activities, equipment, and location.

“It is with much sadness that I have just discovered that Kate and her crew are no longer in the Ojai Valley. But I want to thank them for the numerous visits they made to our retirement community with their adorable animals. Kate’s knowledge and love of animals is infectious. The joy that their visits brought to our seniors was priceless. Thank you Kate for being an animal advocate and a community champion.”
