Stories from July 2013 and before

6/1/2013

Reznor has been adopted! (Story further down.) Paula is now sharing her ranch with Reznor and they are loving life together! Congratulations to them both!
Look at that smile!

Fiona is a lovebird that was surrendered to our care. Her previous owner paid for her medical expenses. She is doing quite well and is a wonderful example of an owner recognizing that they were not caring for the bird properly and transferring her to a someone (us) who can. When people judge others harshly it only promotes fear to correct one's mistakes; we are happy to have her!

Did you know that some donkeys are as big as a horses?! They are called Mammoth Donkeys and ours is fondly known as "Dolly"! She is almost 3 years old and she came from Yucca Valley, CA.  Dolly will receive training and care here as a resident of the ranch.

Meet "Reznor", our Anatolian Shepherd. This beautiful boy had a unique upbringing as a guardian of wildlife. Reznor was unfamiliar with what we see as everyday things such as cars and indoor flooring. His first trip in the car and first outing to a pet shop was quite an experience! He is now being rehabilitated to family life and the adventures of a common dog.

Meet Scout, our miniature horse! He was transferred to our facility instead of being euthanized. Our hopes were that a new atmosphere and fresh start would put an end to his dangerous habits. He is working through severe anxiety and trust issues through rehabilitation with various volunteers.

Ellie & Jethro were foster donkeys from California Coastal Horse Rescue. Unfortunately, their original adopter passed away and they have been in need of a forever home. Recently, Ellie has been adopted into a wonderful home with other donkeys!  Canine & Equine Ranch decided to adopt Jethro and has renamed "Frankie".

Our Potbellied Piglet is "Lily". She was in need of a good home and is now a cherished resident of the ranch.

This little guy is our adopted pony from LA Animal Rescue Organization. "Nucky" and his mother were brutally attack by two dogs when he was only a month old. Thanks to the rescue efforts and rehabilitation of his foster mom and GW Stables, Nucky is happy and healthy. Nucky is a year old now and currently training to become an Equine Mentor for our programs.

After being abandoned at 3 months and then abused and neglected in a new home Bandit was finally surrendered to Kate. After much rehabilitation and training he is a happy and well behaved canine! Bandit was up for adoption until.. he decided to adopt the Kohagen family.

Bella was adopted from California Coastal Horse Rescue. She was on an auction lot in Nevada. Emaciated and pregnant, she was most likely slaughter bound.  When a local rescue discovered she was giving birth on the auction floor they rescued her and coordinated with CCHR for her and her foal's relocation and rehabilitation.
Bella is currently in training to become a trail horse and equine mentor at the ranch.
